  • Can I skip levels to obtain the certificate faster by learning multiple levels in a week? I want a more intensive program.
No, because it will not help you. This is the beauty of the accelerated Languistic.ca program. There is more than enough to learn in one week. What you need is more practice! We offer the most opportunities for practice with our unlimited group conversation classes, which means you can attend 3+ classes per week.
  • When can I start? When does the semester/course start and end?
You will start based on your level in the placement test. We have many classes starting every week because we always have a lot of students signing up at Languistic. Every week is a level, so you can start anytime you want; we will put you in the right level based on your placement test. As for the end date, if you are a beginner, it will take you about 3 months to start feeling improvement in your speaking in everyday situations. When you finish the first certificate (40 levels), that is when you will really perfect your everyday English. If you are an intermediate student, it will take you about 3 months to perfect your everyday English and obtain your first certificate. After the first certificate, you will be ready to start with professional English (English for work), moving toward obtaining your second certificate (level 60). Please see more information in the certificate FAQ.
  • How long is each level? How long is the program? Do I get a certificate?
At our school, we offer 80 levels. Unlike other schools where they have 4 or 5 large levels and they start everyone in the same beginner class with students of all levels and proficiencies, we have broken everything down into small, weekly steps, and precise weekly levels, which means you will be put in the right level based on the most accurate placement test that our language experts from Concordia University have developed. In each weekly level, you will learn new concepts every week and revisit and practice concepts in previous weeks/levels. Language learning takes time and effort, but at Languistic, with our innovative program, by completing 40 levels, you will see tremendous progress in your language skills. We have three certificates: L1-L40: Everyday English. You will be able to communicate in everyday situations: shopping, family, friends, neighbours, banks, government. L41-L60: Professional English. You will be able to communicate for interviews, in a work setting, answering emails and phone calls, speaking with colleagues and clients, work tasks and responsibilities. After the completion of the 60th level, you will be ready to start preparing for standardized and government language tests, such as IELTS, TOEFL, CELPIP. L61-80: Advanced Fluency. You will become like a native speaker, giving you the ability to move up the ladder in the corporate world. You can also increase your IELTS, TOEFL and CELPIP score upon completion of the 80th level.

  • What happens if I miss an oral progress checkpoint (every five levels)?
Don’t worry. The teacher will evaluate your oral skills in the following level/class and give you a grade.
  • What happens if I do not complete a quiz before my next class? What if I fail the quiz?
You must do the quizzes before class. However, if you forget, miss a class, or pause your program, you can show the quiz results next class or in the upcoming weeks and still get a stamp. For in-person students only, if you are absent and show the completed quiz at a later date, the teacher will write an A for absent on the page, over the specific level, and then stamp the level. You can retake the quizzes as many times as you like until you get a minimum pass score of 75%.
  • What is the purpose of the certificate?

You cannot use it for permanent residency; however, they will help you prepare for the aforementioned standardized tests accepted by the Quebec and Canadian government. After completion of the 80th level (the third certificate), you will become like a native speaker, giving you the ability to move up the ladder in the corporate world. You can also increase your IELTS, TOEFL and CELPIP score upon completion of the 80th level.
  • Does the teacher speak French or other languages to help me learn (for English classes)?
Most of our teachers speak some French and other languages; however, we provide an immersive environment at Languistic.ca. Our teachers help you understand concepts through pictures and actions, as a child would naturally learn a language. If you do not understand something in class, you can always ask the teacher to repeat or ask your fellow students. Our teachers will also recommend really good dictionaries and online translators to help you along your language learning journey.
  • Who are Languistic.ca teachers?
Our teachers are either Canadian or highly qualified with many years of Canadian experience. We only hire qualified teachers with Canadian experience trained by experts in the Applied Linguistics program of Concordia University.
  • What happens if I am absent for a Skills class/level? How many classes can I miss?
Don’t worry. You can review the material (watch videos in your modules) on your own and take the quiz on your own this week. You can ask your questions during the online group conversation or in next Skills class. Show your quiz to your teacher the following week. Then you can continue in a higher level, in the same group. Remember, though, that you can only miss 10 Skills classes, so don’t miss too many.
  • What happens if I miss an online group conversation?
We offer many opportunities for practice. You can attend some of the other sections. It is optional; it is for extra practice.
  • How many times can I pause and for how long?
You may pause your program twice per certificate (maximum two weeks per pause). If you pause, you might lose your spot in your current group/time slot. We can also only reserve your spot in your time slot for your Skills class for a one-week pause. The classes you miss during your pause will count as absences.
